From the Director

It is with great pride that I share with you this collection of impact statements that illustrate how Ohio State University Extension is making a positive impact on the lives of Ohioans, their families, and their communities. I know these are just a few of the countless stories to be told about how The Ohio State University makes a difference in your community.

OSU Extension brings people and ideas together to address the state’s most pressing challenges. Some of our work involves educational programming designed to share useful and practical information with the people of the state. We also work to facilitate the contribution of all residents toward collective problem solving, bringing local knowledge and science-based information together in a manner that recognizes and honors both.

Beginning in mid-2016, OSU Extension began describing its work related to six areas of focus. These areas of focus represent the multi-disciplinary nature of Extension’s response to contemporary areas of concern.

  • Health and Wellness
  • Job Skills and Careers
  • Thriving Across the Life Span
  • Sustainable Food Systems
  • Engaged Ohioans, Vibrant Communities
  • Environmental Quality

Extension’s success also depends upon its partners and the support it has from county commissioners, state and federal legislators, other elected officials, and the citizens of Ohio. OSU Extension professionals collaborate closely with local and regional partners to actively engage its clientele right where they live and work.

The need for Extension is as great now as it was at any other point in its 100-year-plus history. The OSU Extension of the next century must remain true to its key principles of community engagement and responsiveness while embracing approaches and technologies that will increase its reach and impact. I am confident Extension will play a primary role in shaping and positively impact Ohio and its residents for years to come.

Sincerely,
Roger Rennekamp
